How to Register on SAM.gov: Step-by-Step Guide for Texas Businesses

  1. Go to SAM.gov: Navigate to sam.gov and create an individual user account if you do not already have one. Use Login.gov for authentication.
  2. Start entity registration: Select "Get Started" under entity registration and choose your entity type.
  3. Validate your entity: The system will verify your business information against IRS records. This step may take several business days.
  4. Complete the core data: Enter your business details, NAICS codes, PSC codes (Product and Service Codes), and socioeconomic information.
  5. Set up financial information: Enter your bank account details for electronic funds transfer.
  6. Complete representations and certifications: Answer required questions about your business size, ownership, and compliance status.
  7. Submit and wait for activation: After submission, SAM.gov processes your registration. Initial registration can take up to several weeks, though most registrations are processed faster.

  • Registration is free: SAM.gov does not charge fees. Any service charging for SAM.gov registration is a third-party service, not the government.
  • Annual renewal required: SAM.gov registrations expire after one year and must be renewed to remain active.
  • Keep information current: If your business address, banking information, or ownership changes, update SAM.gov promptly.
  • Allow time for processing: Do not wait until a contract or grant deadline to register. Start the process well in advance.
